Startup Bootcamp, Part 3: The sniff test

The sniff test is an analysis using no outside research to quickly determine if your idea is worth pursuing.

Below are the six criteria you should pressure test your idea against, ranking them from 1-10. Remember, this exercise shouldn’t take more than five minutes; it’s a “back-of-the-napkin” gut check at this point.

Use the chart below to rank each criteria as it relates to your idea. We’ve recorded Primal Post’s below.

How’d You Do?

How is your idea holding up to your sniff test? Did you score 6-10 for most categories? Well done! Are the majority 5 or less? Hmm, it might be time to rethink your idea.

Now that you’ve gut checked your concept and you’re confident it’s worth pursuing, it’s time to put on some new game and get experimental (thanks Vic Mensa). We’re going to show you how to frame your MVP like a science experiment.

We’ll keep chewing on Primal Post, because we hate cliffhangers and we know you’re dying to see where this thing goes, too.
